My Entrepreneurial Story

Growing up, my family wasn't living lavished. We had a simple life, where my mom had started a nice low-level corporate job, and my father was working for 7-11. My parents came from very poor families, which meant they didn't have much to start off with as well. It also didn't help that my parents met in college and decided to marry early. As a kid, I didn't notice nor mind our financial situation, but my father never wanted us to see the struggle that he had go through back in Vietnam. Around the age of 5, my dad took it upon himself to provide more for the family. With two kids and another of the way, my dad couldn't stand by and not be able to financial support us in our dreams and future. Whether that be college, sports, or travel, my dad didn't want to be the one who close any opportunities.
So, he moved to Florida by himself for 3 years. He bought into the franchise program at 7-11. Yes, I understand franchising sometimes isn't consider to be entrepreneurship. Although, he doesn't follow a certain formula like a McDonald's franchise might. As a 7-11 franchise owner, he has more freedom and control over business decisions. He orders stock that to what his customers like and can fluctuate what is offered or not. (He says the health trend is in, which is why has stocked more drinks like Kombucha and Naked Juice). This reason is why I used my dad as my entrepreneurial story because besides the brand name, he operates his store completely different from other gas stations via the store layout, stock ordering, and money management.
